The Mills were established in 1803 by Samuel Marsland[1]. In 1819 and 1823 the mills were modernised by Hyde, Cook and Wood[2], later in 1865 sold to Rylands & Sons[3]. Oxford Road Twist Mill supplied the firm with furnishings and bedding[4].
The map [Map 9] also shows the Hulme Street Mills that John Rylands obtained in 1874 for the price of £64,000[5]. The Mills produced package, boxes and furnishings[6] for the firm as well as “lithographic and letterpress printing”[7].
