  • 1850 - Joseph Rylands, the eldest son, withdrawal from the company thus put an end to the partnership of five businessmen: Richard Rylands, John Rylands, John Cross and Joseph Cross on June 30th.  (London Gazette).

  •  1852 - William, second son of John Rylands got involved in business of his father.

  • 1853 - Devastating loss of Joseph Rylands who died at the age of 56 (born 1796). Not only he was John's business partner but most importantly his eldest brother. 

  • 1854 - John Rylands ended his business at Wigan Linan Works. Same year catastrophic fire broke out on New High Street, Manchester warehouse. Rylands became the owner of Longford Hall and 43 acres of its domain.

  • 1856 - London warehouse moved from Cheapside to Wood Street. 

  • 1857 - John Rylands left his home in Ardwick Green and moved to Longford Hall. Additionally performed his duties as governor for Salford Hundred but also he obtained Royal Manchester Institution by inheritance.

  • 1858 - William Rylands, second son of John Rylands was accredited with £5,000. 

  • 1859 - William Rylands and John Rylands agreed on their partnership.
