LGBT Rights
and the
Twinning of
Manchester & St. Petersburg

Who we are
What we are doing
We are three second year history students at Manchester Metropolitan University. We were given the task of a group project which involved gathering research and resources on the twinning of Manchester and St. Petersburg, to coincide with a joint Britain and Russia year of culture in 2014. This joint cultural project will see a showcase of British culture in Russia, and vice-versa, Russian culture in Britain. For more information visit: http://www.britishcouncil.ru/en/discover-arts/uk-russia-year-of-culture-2014
This project is based on the twinning of Manchester and St. Petersburg. It focuses in particular on the issue of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in Britain and Russia. This is a controversial topic in Russia at the moment and therefore we felt it would be interesting to discuss and research. This website will present our work and also serve as a source of information for people interested in LGBT rights. It will share information on the current political issues facing both Russia and Britain, the LGBT histories of both countries and the LGBT cultures of the twin cities; including plenty of video's, photo's, survey's and interviews. We hope that this website will stand the test of time and be interesting and informative to its viewers.
